The Sweet Story Behind Bon Bon Bows

The Sweet Story Behind Bon Bon Bows

Before there were bamboo pajamas and playful prints, there were Bon Bon Barrettes. And the story behind them is as sweet as it sounds.

Let’s rewind to high school. My friend Colette and I had our eyes on those adorable barrettes from Anthropologie — you know, the kind that make every outfit feel just a little more magical. But as high schoolers on a budget, there was no way we could justify the price tags.

Instead of giving up, we got creative. Armed with ribbons, buttons, and a hot glue gun, we decided to make our own hair accessories. What started as a fun DIY project in our bedrooms quickly turned into something bigger. We began selling our handmade creations to friends, at local boutiques, and even at small markets. We called them Bon Bon Barrettes, inspired by the colorful, candy-like vibe they had.

Somehow (we’re still not entirely sure how!), our little barrettes found their way into seven stores around Colorado. We were thrilled — two teenage girls running a mini accessories empire out of our parents’ houses.

Fast forward to today, and Bon Bon Bows are a sweet throwback to those early days of dreaming big and creating with our own two hands. The bows you see now are a nod to that fearless, fun spirit. And the best part? Colette’s daughter is now one of the models on the Zolly site — talk about a full-circle moment!

So every time you put on a Bon Bon Bow, you’re wearing a little piece of that story: a reminder that big dreams often start with small, scrappy beginnings (and a hot glue gun).
